In the United States alone, lightning kills 45 and seriously injures 300 people each year. Worldwide real-time lightning alerts from
Wilkens Weather Technologies improve safety by supporting injury prevention and saving lives. When cloud-to-ground lightning is detected
within a pre-determined radius of your location, you will receive real-time alerts showing you the exact time of the strike, its location
with distance and directional bearing from your facility. Alerts are delivered via email and SMS text message to mobile phones worldwide.
With global coverage, our unique graphical displays use varying color shades to indicate age and location of strikes. Once your immediate
area is free from strikes for 30 minutes, you will receive an all clear message.
- Real-Time Lightning Imagery
Available through the WWT customized webpage, lightning strike maps depict the most recent lightning data available around your location of
interest. The data is produced by analyzing data provided by a worldwide network of over several hundred lightning detection sensors that
instantly detect the electromagnetic signals produced by cloud to ground lightning strikes. For each strike, a new point is plotted on the
map and the color of the point indicates the age of the strike. Compared to most conventional lightning systems that display lightning
strikes 20+ minutes after the fact, this system updates every 5 minutes! Timely and accurate lightning imagery can be very beneficial
for the operational safety and guidelines of your facilities.
- Email and Text Message Alerts
Ideal for safety considerations, WWT automatically issues weather bulletins via email and text messages(SMS) when lightning strikes are
detected within a certain distance of your location of interest. This distance is customizable based on your requirements (5, 10, 15
miles, etc). The WWT system process will include an initial email when lightning is first detected within the required distance, and
then will issue an all clear statement when strikes have not been detected for 30 minutes within your area.
